Guitar has always been the instrument of the people. Guitars are unique among instruments because they are portable and if un-amplified, perfectly suited to accompanying a human voice. Guitar is also the ultimate entry-level instrument, because once you've learned five basic key chords, there are thousands and thousands of popular tunes that can be played with various combinations of those five chords.
My Guitar Method I wrote my own guitar method for beginners, the I Love Music Theory Method for Guitar, because I was frustrated with the existing methods out there. My book actually covers tablature and basics of musical notation and rhythm. I'm not sure why other method books don't cover what are considered the basics, but the facts on the ground are that they don't. Anatomy of a Guitar Lesson Guitar lessons, like piano lessons, consist of three main parts: technique, memorization, and study. Guitar lessons typically begin with a technical warmup. Sometimes this will involve scales, others it will involve basic chords. After technique, I ask students to perform one or more songs from memory. The third component is studying a new piece or song out of my method book or elsewhere.
